Ocean Township covers a lot of ground — Oakhurst, Wanamassa, Wayside, and a chunk of the inland Monmouth corridor. We treat properties across all four sections, and the mosquito-tick profile varies block to block. The Wanamassa side faces Deal Lake. Oakhurst has older suburban neighborhoods with mature trees. Wayside is more wooded and tick-heavy. Each side gets a different approach.
The township's western side (Wayside, parts of Oakhurst near the Garden State Parkway) is more wooded, has higher deer density, and has notably higher tick pressure than the eastern Wanamassa side. Black-legged ticks are common on Wayside properties.
The Wanamassa side, sitting against Deal Lake, deals with lake-driven mosquito pressure similar to neighboring Asbury Park. Oakhurst proper sits in between — moderate tick pressure, moderate mosquito pressure, lots of older homes with mature plantings that need careful resting-site treatment.
Wayside and west Oakhurst properties usually get a tick-forward program: heavier granular barrier, more perimeter coverage of wooded edges, mosquito treatment as a secondary layer. Wanamassa and east Oakhurst properties usually get the standard mosquito-forward program with tick coverage as needed.
